Suggestions For Selecting The Highest Quality Surfboard For Your Level

April 19, 2009

While it can be a real challenge to learn how to surf many people find buying the perfect surfboard almost as challenging. Custom surfboards seem to be everywhere you look when you go to the beach. Even little kids will have colorfully painted boards while teens will have wild boards that match their personalities.

Adults will even have specialized boards that they can use for years and years. The truth is that when purchasing surfboards the last thing you need to think about is the color. When choosing from all the different surfboards for sale your main considerations should be the size of the board and what type of surfer you are.

Those looking to make amazing moves on the waves fast should consider buying a short board. Short boards are much easier for a beginner to maneuver. You want a board that is between six and ten inches taller than you are if the board is standing upright. You may want a surfboard that’s a little taller if you are taller than average. You should also get a board that is a little bit wider and thicker than a regular board. A type of surfboard known as a fish may be a good choice as it will be shorter and more wide than a typical surfboard.

Someone who is just learning but does not have much time to devote to it may want to buy a fun board. Using these boards is like using a standard long board except they are thicker and wider. They give the novice surfboarder added stability. While it can be much simpler to learn to surf using a fun board, a fish will give you greater ease of movement.

The best bet for the casual surfer is the long board. They let the casual surfer get up quickly as they make learning easier. The price tag is the real disadvantage to buying a longboard surfboard. You will usually pay more for a long board than any other type of board.
