June 20, 2009

If you want to have a rewarding and safe backpacking experience, then choosing the right tent should be on top of your checklist. Along with properly packed camping gear and supplies, an outstanding tent is a great camping partner.

One of the primary considerations in buying a backpacking tent is durability. Three-season tents are free standing tents are ideal for backpacking in rocky and sloped surfaces. Black Diamond Vista is especially designed to remain strong against wind, light snow and rain, which makes Vista ideal for backpacking.

Relative to weight, manufacturers have what they call minimum weight which means that it includes the weight of the tent body, the poles and the rainfly only. Maximum weight would mean stakes stuff sack and poles sack weights are included apart from the tent body, rainfly and poles. What is vital for you to consider is the weight and comfort ratio.

Not all product specifications claimed by tent manufacturers are accurate so make sure you check for actual product reviews. When buying your tent, it is important that you check for the size and sleeping capacity considering the number of people who would be sleeping inside the tent.

Nylon and polyester are common tent materials proven to be durable and weather-resistant yet light for backpacking. Make sure that your tents have protected and leak-resistant seams to protect you against elements. Black Diamond tents are known for these features.

Buy tent that has waterproof rainfly for additional comfort by providing a good insulation inside the tent. It is designed to reduce condensation and thus provide a warmer temperature inside. In choosing the right tent, simplicity, durability and comfort must be on top of your priorities.

You should also check the tent’s accessories and other features. Look for tents with built-in internal storage organizing pockets and check the stuff sack. Tents with two doors, high floor seams and taped seams are better. All tents have their pros and cons so it pays to check and read customer reviews.
