Selecting a Mountain Bike Design That Fits Your Riding Style

May 27, 2009

As for the design of a mountain bike, the style is key, it has to fit your personality. After all, if you plan on biking a whole lot, you want to make sure that you get the right design for you. Maybe you are going to start mountain biking for the first time or perhaps you looking to take your cycling to the next level. Before you go shopping for a bike think about what you want it for, like do you want to take leisurely rides in the mountains or are you going to race your mountain bike.

We are going to look at the fully rigid mountain bike first in our exploration of mountain bikes. This is really a conventional bicycle since it doesn’t have any suspension in the front or back. These, back in the day, used to be one of the most common bikes, everyone used to have them.

Today many of the older model bikes have been replaced with bikes that have, either front or rear, suspension that makes them more comfortable for the rider. Generally speaking the least expensive bike for mountain riding is going to be a rigid suspension bike.

Hard-tail is the next type of mountain bike we are going to discuss. This type of bike got its name because they have a rear end without any suspension. The comfort of this bike with front suspension has made it, probably, one of the most purchased bikes around. Although they cost slightly more, the difference between these models and the rigid ones clearly makes the extra investment worth it.

Next, there is a mountain bike with a soft tail and this bike uses suspension in the rear. Back suspensions are really a few of the more recent enhancements that can be more complicated in their design. Though on the expensive side as far as prices are concerned, these bikes are worth the money as they are more forgiving to the rider.

Lastly, there are the full suspension mountain bikes that have suspensions in both the front and back. This bike is worth the high price tag, because it really is one of the best innovations for the mountain bike! These bikes came out in the nineties and the market for these bikes has just grown and grown!
